By Esther Long
Acrylic on canvas
While Esther was working on this particular painting, she happened to listen to her pastor preach a sermon on the significance of certain colours in the Gospel story. The four colours that stood out to her were white – signifying the robe of righteousness, purple – the majesty of God, red – the blood of Christ, and blue – God's grace. She used these colours in her painting to surround and somewhat cover the black circles she had initially painted. For Esther, the black circles represent the darkness in our lives, and the colours around them that were added later represent the Good News of God.
